Generics explained
| As seen in this picture, Megatron's original body-type was a drill tank, and he shared his looks with thousands of nameless miner back on Cybertron. |
Welcome dear fellow readers, for this post I'm going to be talking about a simple thing used in all franchises, including transformers, and it's about Generics, the nameless bots who mostly never become characters.
So to be simple, Generics are characters who aren't meant to be characters(contradictions I know) and instead meant to fill out the scenes within fiction, without generics we ether get a unrealistic(for fiction standards) scene with absolutely barely anybody.
Or worse, we have to many characters, and as time taught us over and over again, it's good to have few main characters to get people interested. Examples of Generics are Stormtroopers(Star wars) and Redshirts (Star Trek)
In transformers case, the most common case of Generics are the Seekers from G1 and the Protoform's from the live action series, though these aren't the only Generics, their the most remembered.
Sometimes some generics are canonised into actual characters, and here's a small list of them:
Sunstorm
Nacelle
Hotlink
Bitstream
Acid Storm
Greenlight
Lancer
Glyph
Strika
Lickety-Split
Lightbright
Chuffer
Ion Storm
Nova Storm
Loader
Endo

As a bonus, I left this out for the end so can showcase the most famous Transformers prime Generic, the Vehicons!:
Though most lookalikes are generics, some are characters from the start, for this hears a list of them:
Demolishor for Scavenger
Scrapper for Scrapmetal and Trench
